Technology, design, price and comfort are the characteristics that European customers value most for domestic equipment with power less than 50kW. The main trend in manufacturing firms is the adaptation of models to Ecodesign. The most relevant companies in the sector will show their new developments in this type of solutions at the Expobiomasa 2021 fair, which will be held from September 21 to 23 in Valladolid. The event already has 160 companies from 29 countries as confirmed exhibitors.
In Europe, nearly one million domestic boilers and around 82,000 units are sold per year. Germany, with more than 265,000 biomass boilers in operation, and Italy, with 115,000 boilers, lead the sales ranking with 15,000 units. Austria, with 125,000 boilers, the country with the best ratio per inhabitant, having one boiler for every 70 Austrians. And in 2018, Spain had 18,000 pellet boilers for domestic use , a year in which 2,400 units were sold, 7.1% more than the previous year.
The latest European data available indicates that there are more than 4.6 million pellet stoves in operation and that annual sales exceed 570,000 units. The positive evolution of sales in Mediterranean countries stands out. Italy has 2.6 million stoves in operation and leads the sales ranking with 180,000 units. It is followed by France, which had 740,000 pellet stoves in operation at the end of 2017, and its sales grew by 35%, to 144,000 units. In 2017, Spain had 220,000 operational pellet stoves, one for every 1,145 Spaniards. A year later, the estimated number of operating stoves in Spain was almost 270,000 , and sales had increased by 19%.
