According to the latest newsletter from AVEBIOM (Spanish Association for Energy Valorization of Biomass), Spain already has 50 active plants in the production of pellets, as stated in the Map of Solid Biofuels of the Iberian Peninsula and South America. South that is prepared annually by the association. In the last year, 9 new factories have been added to the list, while the current installed capacity is around 900,000 tons per year.
Among the new factories, AVEBIOM highlights the start-up of the Naturpellet plant, in Segovia, with 30,000 t/year; the Ebinor company from Rioja, which begins its activity with 10,000 t/year and plans to increase shortly to 20,000t/year; or the Gesbi factory in Córdoba, which will produce up to 25,000 t/year.
The majority of new producers have chosen to obtain the ENplus certificate from the beginning and, today, 21 companies are manufacturing quality pellets, 7 more than in April 2014. The number of certified distributors has almost doubled, going from 6 to 11, several of them also produce pellets and other biofuels.
The map prepared by AVEBIOM also includes data from Portugal and Latin America. While in Portugal the ENplus certified producers have doubled (from 4 in 2014 to 8 currently certified factories), in Latin America the entry into operation of two large factories in the north of Argentina stands out, one of them with 75,000 t/year capacity . In Chile, domestic pellet consumption is increasing consistently, so an increase in capacity is to be expected in the coming years.
