COMSA Renovables and Electra Caldense have signed a collaboration agreement for the production and marketing of thermal energy, in the domestic and industrial sphere, from biomass.
In the projects carried out within the framework of the agreement, COMSA Corporación's renewable energy company will be responsible for the supply of forest biomass for subsequent energy recovery and, for its part, Electra Caldense will assume the production and subsequent sale of thermal energy.
Through this collaboration agreement, both companies, founding members of the Biomass Cluster of Catalonia, will also execute turnkey projects that will include the design, construction, commissioning, as well as operation and maintenance of new thermal energy production facilities.
This alliance also contemplates the possibility of acting through an Energy Services Company (ESC). Thus, it would assume the initial investment, while the payment for the services provided would be based on the savings obtained by the client from the energy efficiency improvements implemented.
The agreement is part of the strategy of the Generalitat of Catalonia to promote forestry and agricultural energy use through the valorization of biomass and its use as thermal energy in homes and industries. According to data from the Catalan government, this plan will allow the movement of 600,000 tons per year starting in 2020, more than double the current figure, which stands at 240,000 tons/year.
