Recently, at least one Spanish company producing wood pellets has been the victim of fraud due to the impersonation of its brand, according to the Spanish Association for the Energy Recovery of Biomass (AVEBIOM).
The modus operandi of impostors is always the same: they contact potential buyers, generally distributors, on behalf of these companies to make a sale that is not ultimately consummated. The scam on clients materializes when they make an advance payment for a purchase of pellets that has not really occurred.
The affected companies have already reported to the relevant authorities and have brought the facts to the attention of AVEBIOM so that the notice can be sent to as many interested professionals as possible.
Recommendations to avoid being a victim of fraud
Given the circumstances, AVEBIOM sources insist on recommending pellet buyers to remain alert to possible scam attempts.
To avoid this type of deception, it is very useful to contrast the information that comes to us from unknown emails, or with a domain that does not correspond to the company it claims to represent, as well as verify the authenticity of the identity of the people who establish contact.
To do this, and in case of any doubt, it is best to call the official headquarters of the company in question and request confirmation of the information received, in addition, of course, not to make any payment before verifying that the transaction has been carried out with the right person and company.
AVEBIOM also invites us to be suspicious of supposed sellers of whom the buyer has no prior reference and who are the ones who take the initiative by offering the pellet at outrageously cheap prices. In the latter case, a ton of certified wood pellets was offered for 120 euros with transportation included, an unusual price in the market.
