The Spanish Association for the Energy Recovery of Biomass ( Avebiom ) will maintain its representation in the European association of the sector (Aebiom), after the re-election of its representative as 'board director' in the highest management body of the entity. The representative of Avebiom, Pablo Rodero Masdemont, has been one of the eight directors elected for a new two-year term among the 14 candidates who presented themselves.
Avebiom defends the implementation of carbon footprint control systems in facilities of more than 20MW, which represent 75% of biomass consumption, as contemplated in the new Sustainability Directive, currently being debated in the European Parliament . In this sense, Avebiom advocates setting a percentage reduction in greenhouse gas emissions greater than the 70% initially set by the European Parliament, on January 17, for facilities that begin operating on January 1. of 2021.
Furthermore, among other measures, Avebiom promotes the implementation of a specific tax on CO2 emissions, in order to effectively contribute to alleviating the causes that generate the 'greenhouse effect'.
According to Rodero Masdemont, a good part of his work as a Spanish representative in Aebiom, in this new period, will focus on the formulation of allegations and comments on the directives in the process of being drafted, such as those on 'clean energies'; that is, the energy efficiency directives (EED) and the one that is being developed specifically for buildings (EPBD).
