Acciona Energía will build a biomass plant with a power of 49.9MW in the municipality of Logrosán (Cáceres). The company has been awarded in the third auction for the granting of the economic regime for renewable energy convened by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge , which guarantees a sales price for the electricity that the plant produces for 20 years.
The biomass plant is located 10 kilometers from the urban center of the municipality and already has the favorable Environmental Impact Declaration from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Sustainability of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura . Acciona Energía plans to begin construction of the plant in the second quarter of 2023, with the objective of delivering energy in the second half of 2025.
The estimated production of the Logrosán plant will amount to 376GWh/year , which will avoid the emission of more than 165,000 annual tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and will be equivalent to the effect of removing almost 65,000 cars from circulation or planting 300,000 trees.
The project foresees the construction of a plant with a surface area of 90,000 square meters, with a storage area of 110,000 square meters . The annual consumption of the plant is estimated at 261,000 metric tons per year of biomass of agricultural and forestry origin, mainly from the environment. With this, the plant will boost the region's economy by promoting activities for the use of agricultural and forestry waste, while preventing fires by encouraging the cleaning and clearing of mountains and pastures.
The industrial project will have support plans to supervise the preservation and regeneration of the flora and fauna of the area , as well as social action programs to promote local development and employment.
