Valladolid opens the doors of the Expobiomasa fair

With the traditional ribbon cutting and flag raising, the twelfth edition of the Expobiomasa international fair was inaugurated, organized by the Spanish Association for the Energy Recovery of Biomass (Avebiom), whose official ceremony was chaired by the mayor of Valladolid, Óscar Puente , accompanied by the Minister of Development and Environment of the Government of Castilla y León, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones; the general director of the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving, IDAE, Joan Groizard; and by the president of Avebiom, Javier Díaz.

In this edition, a total of 540 companies, from 30 countries, participate in Expobiomasa, exhibiting the best equipment and the latest technologies in 28,000 square meters of the Valladolid fairgrounds. During the three days of the event (September 24, 25 and 26), more than 15,000 professionals from the sector are expected to visit.

The Clinical Hospital of Valladolid has received a Diploma of recognition from Avebiom that highlights its decision to connect to the heating network of the University of Valladolid. The award was received by the managing director of the Clinic, Francisco Javier Vadillo, from the Minister of Development and Environment of Castilla y León, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones.

The mayor of Valladolid, Óscar Puente, presented the 'Promote bioenergy 2019' award to the Basque Energy Entity (EVE), which was collected by its director, Íñigo Ansola, with which Avebiom wanted to recognize the work of dissemination, support and investment developed by EVE in the extension of biomass as a source of thermal generation in homes, buildings for collective use and industries.

The Basque Energy Entity (EVE) was created in 1982 and is the Energy Agency of the Basque Government, whose mission is to propose energy strategies under the criteria of supply guarantee, cost competitiveness, sustainability and technological development; as well as actively participate in their development and contribute to the achievement of the objectives defined therein.

In line with the European strategies to promote renewables oriented towards the 'decarbonization' of the energy sector, the EVE develops various annual aid programs, through which nearly 4,000 thermal biomass installations have been promoted, which have achieved a impact on Basque society by modifying its traditional consumption patterns.

In previous editions, the 'Promote Bioenergy' award has been received by the Terrassa City Council (2010), IDAE (2011), the Andalusian Energy Agency (2012), the Regional Government of Castilla y León (2013), the Foreign Exchange Office Climate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (2014), the Xunta de Galicia (2015), the public company Nasuvinsa (Navarra of Land and Housing, in 2016), the University of Valladolid (2017) and the Ceder-Ciemat of Soria ( 2018).

'Innovation' award and two second prizes
The German company Pallman has received the 2019 Innovation award within the framework of the activities of the international bioenergy fair Expobiomasa, which opened its doors today in Valladolid.

With this award, which was collected by Carlos Gómez - representative of Pallman in Spain -, Expobiomasa recognizes the innovation represented by Pallmann's new 'shock wave' wood chipper, EcoPulser, which can grind around five tons of wood at per hour, with only two motors of 22 kW each, which allows generating savings in energy costs of 80% in relation to those of conventional 'mills'. The award was presented by the Minister of Development and Environment of the Government of Castilla y León, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones.

First prize, for the Valencian group Innergy for its new Bio-Bloc thermal energy generator, conceived with hot air turbine technology from biomass and waste. With a compact and transportable design, it allows eliminating the boiler or pressure equipment, as well as water or oil as a heat transfer fluid to move the turbine. He collected the David López award from the general director of the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving, IDAE, Joan Groizard.

The second runner-up, awarded to the Finnish company Saalasti, was collected by its general director, Jarno Petäkoski, from the deputy director general of Forestry Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, José Manuel Jaquotot. Expobiomasa wanted to recognize the innovation of the latest generation 'Hippo' press, which is 35 times more efficient than previous ones in the mechanical drying of biomass for energy purposes, represents significant economic savings and avoids the emission of thousands of tons of CO2 .
