AVEBIOM survey , pellet prices for final consumers have decreased in all formats, reaching their lowest values since the price index for wood pellets began to be prepared in the first quarter of 2012.
The annual decreases, comparing the average price of 2015 and the average price of 2016, are significant: from -3.2% for pellets supplied by dump truck, to -6.6% in the prices for the loose bag.
At this point in the campaign, when the heating begins to work, it is usual for prices to rise, but the bad last campaign in terms of sales and the oversupply in the Spanish market do not make it foreseeable that prices will rise in the short term. to reach the expected “campaign” prices.
However, this season the cold has arrived on usual dates and, if it continues, it could help the market begin to normalize.
The average prices to the final consumer include 21% VAT and an average transport of 200 km in bulk format. Pellet prices have been requested in three different formats: 15 kg bags, pallet of bags (€/tn) and bulk pellet price (€/tn); and classes A1 and A2 are considered, corresponding to the ISO 17225-2 standard.
Prices are expressed in €/tn and c€/kWh; This last unit of measurement facilitates comparisons with the costs of fossil fuels such as diesel or natural gas. To calculate the cost per energy content, a calorific value of the pellet of 4100 kcal/kg (4.76 kWh/kg) has been considered.
Transport has been calculated with the coefficients published by the “Observatory of costs of road freight transport in July 2016”, published by the Ministry of Public Works.
To obtain the mean values, extreme values that are more than 3 times the standard deviation from the mean have been discarded.
