The new 46 MW biomass plant in Huelva begins to generate energy

The new 46 MW biomass generation plant that Ence is building in Huelva has already been connected to the Electric Grid and has generated its first megawatt of renewable energy from biomass.

The new facility will continue in the testing phase until December, when it is expected to complete this previous testing period and enter official operation. The plant has been built following the best available techniques and will be able to produce an estimated 299,000 MWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the energy needs of almost 56,000 people.

Once it is commissioned, the plant will generate around 1,200 sustainable jobs, which will be added to the 500 direct jobs that its construction work has generated. The company is now working on training the professionals who will be in charge of operating the facilities, once they come into operation.

To hire these new professionals, the company has relied on the professional schools and municipal employment services of several Huelva municipalities, especially those of San Juan del Puerto and Huelva, within the framework of the commitment to collaboration that Ence maintains with these councils. for the promotion of local employment.

Biomass is a manageable renewable technology, since it can be stored and programmed. Ence's commitment to this technology thus contributes to advancing the decarbonization objectives set by the European Commission and advancing the path of the energy transition.

The company has also developed a Decalogue for the Sustainability of Biomass as Fuel. The sustainable management of biomass contributes to mitigating climate change and prevents fires in the mountains, as well as the polluting burning of agricultural waste.

The investment that the company has allocated to this new plant reinforces Ence's commitment to high-efficiency, low-emission energy generation, since it will use the most advanced technologies and systems to guarantee permanent respect for the environment.
