The Ferrol Naval Hospital is supplied with two biomass boilers

The Comprehensive Energy Efficiency Plan (PIEE) of the Galician Health Service (SERGAS) and the Strategy to Promote Forest Biomass for the period 2014-2020 promoted by the Xunta de Galicia, have had as their maximum objective to promote the installation of boilers biomass in Galician hospitals in order to cover their thermal needs with a clean source of energy.

The Naval Hospital of the Ferrol University Hospital Complex is one of the most relevant health infrastructures in the Autonomous Community of Galicia. This building, previously known as the Marina Hospital and whose management passed into the hands of Sergas a few years ago, has a total of 314 beds, 5 operating rooms and 2 hyperbolic chambers to treat poisoning, decompressions and burns.

Considering the high thermal demand of its facilities, and with the aim of improving its energy efficiency, Sergas, through a project to install two biomass boilers supplied by Termosun, has managed to significantly reduce thermal production costs by using a of sustainable energy.

With this project, the four diesel and gas boilers that previously reported high energy and environmental costs have been replaced by two 1,000 kW Herz BioFire boilers, offering a total power of 2,000 kW and using pellets as fuel. In addition, the facility has two support gas boilers.

These Herz boilers, belonging to the BioFire range, offer, for large installations, high efficiency levels certified by the most demanding European control bodies. Its compact and modular design, which also has the water-cooled system known as Water Jacket, has, among other features, a double introducer auger, a mobile grill with continuous movement adjustable in speed, an automatic ash extraction system and a unit BioControl 3000 central control system and Lambda probe with an interface for Modbus communication and remote display.
