Prodesa signs two large biomass projects in Canada

Prodesa has recently signed a contract with a large holding company that operates in Canada and the USA. This project has begun with a first phase of development of the detailed engineering (process and pelletizing line) for a new pellet plant, as well as the supply of new equipment in a second phase. The plant, located in Canada, will produce 185,000 tons/a, using chips, shavings and bark as raw materials. The project will move production lines from an existing factory to new facilities. The determining factor that has led this holding company to hire Prodesa has been the company's extensive experience in Engineering projects.

The company's second project in Canada will be developed at the Skeena sawmill, whose forestry operations are located in British Columbia, Canada. The sawmill has an annual capacity of approximately 200 million board feet (471,947 m 3 ) of annual lumber production.

Skeena, one of the largest sawmills in the state of British Columbia, has begun the construction project of a new pellet plant and has selected Prodesa for the design, manufacturing and supply project of a complete high-capacity pellet plant.
The total capacity of this pellet plant will be 96,000 tons/a using chips and shavings as raw materials.

The key point for the client to have made this decision has undoubtedly been due to the specific design and high performance of the belt drying in extreme environmental conditions. The chosen one is a low temperature belt drying with a production of 12 tons/h. It uses hot air at 230ºF (110ºC) from two natural gas burners (2x 5.5 MW) for the drying process.

The main benefits of this dryer are low energy consumption, low level emissions, low temperature energy use and automated operation with gentle drying for optimal product quality.
