Olive grove biomass
During the 4th meeting of the European Federation of Olive Oil and Olive Biomass, the concern in the sector was highlighted in how to perfect the circular economy of the olive sector, as well as the high productions and difficult disposal of the main biomass of the olive grove: the orujillo.
The only currently viable solution for Spain is the energy valuation of biomass with the conversion of coal plants into biomass plants and the creation of new medium power plants of less than 15 MW, distributed throughout the olive grove production areas. In both cases, using pomace and pruning remains as the main biomass, in addition to forest biomass.
The estimate for the next campaign is that Spain will have 1,500,000 tons , Italy 380,000 tons, Portugal 150,000 tons. and Greece 300,000 t.
Biomass section
I insist, it is important to promote the implementation of technologies and systems for using biomass in the olive sector, since this can provide an additional source of income for farmers and promote economic diversification in rural areas.
Olive grove biomass represents an interesting opportunity for the production of renewable energy and the sustainable management of agricultural waste. Its use can have significant economic and environmental benefits, and it is important to promote its implementation in the olive sector.
