Veolia has launched a new subplant in its biomass heat network in Móstoles Ecoenergía. The construction of the Sala 14 Libertad-Onu substation allows 224 new homes to be connected to the network, which with this addition already supplies heating and domestic hot water to a total of 2,646 homes. The company recently held an opening ceremony with the residents of the Madrid town of Móstoles, to whom it explained how the network works and why this project is a cheaper, more sustainable and more efficient solution for them.
The Móstoles Ecoenergía biomass heat network has multiple benefits. On the one hand, it represents a significant economic saving since it reduces the cost of hot water and heating by 20%, guaranteeing the comfort of the neighbors. To do this, it uses biomass forest chips, which come from the cleaning of Spanish forests, provided by the company Veolia Biomasa España. Biomass is an economical and environmentally friendly source of renewable energy because it reduces CO 2 emitted into the atmosphere. In this sense, Móstoles Ecoenergía allows us to avoid the emission of 9,000 tons of CO 2 , thereby reducing the ecological footprint of the communities of owners it supplies.
In addition, Veolia provides residents with more transparent and efficient management. The company is responsible for the operation and exploitation of the network's heat generation plant, as well as the energy supply. This service includes surveillance work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year through Hubgrade, Veolia's energy efficiency control center. With this system, Veolia provides the knowledge of its experts to optimize the energy consumption of the facilities and guarantee both comfort conditions and a lower ecological impact.
The Hubgrade also allows you to detect any anomaly in advance and correct it remotely or send a notification to the corresponding technician. In this way, the company anticipates and tries to resolve any possible incident before the user even notices it. Neighbors can also consult all the data through an application.
The Móstoles Ecoenergía heat network is designed to serve 6,500 homes. Veolia plans to end 2019 with 3,562 connected homes and progressively expand the network until reaching the total number in 6 or 7 years.
