According to forecasts, more than 500 exhibitors will participate in the twelfth edition of this fair, presenting the latest in technology, design and features to the 15,000 professionals who will visit the fairgrounds, eager to see and acquire equipment that offers solutions to a consumer every increasingly demanding and better informed.
4.5 million stoves in Europe
In recent years, some 4.5 million high-efficiency biomass stoves and boilers have been installed in Europe, according to data from the EPC 2017 survey. These teams and the more than 315,000 professionals dedicated to solid biomass are those that have allowed biomass of local origin to be used in a sustainable manner, instead of consuming the equivalent of some 98,000 million liters of diesel for heating. Biomass, which is the most important renewable energy at European level, will allow us to be self-sufficient for 43 days this year.
Faced with this rising market, Expobiomasa has been evolving in recent years to become one of the five most important events in the sector worldwide. It is a commitment to a market that still offers many opportunities in Spain and Portugal, as well as a link between European technology and Latin American professionals. An event that has grown edition after edition and that aims to help leading firms to consolidate themselves in the market as an alternative to “fossil technology” manufacturers and the lobbies of electrical multinationals.
Biomass, protagonist of the bioeconomy
It is a fact that biomass is gaining presence year after year in the Spanish energy mix. The new biomass stoves and boilers have experienced very significant growth in recent years, for one fundamental reason: the significant economic savings that this solution represents compared to spending on fuels of fossil origin, or compared to the very high cost of electricity, since Biomass represents considerable savings for families, companies and administrations themselves.
The forestry sector in Spain, as is already the case in Europe, views very favorably that an increase in sustainable consumption of biomass helps to mobilize much more wood and contribute to overcoming forest abandonment. And for industry and service companies it is practically impossible to find another energy technology that complies so coherently with the postulates of the Circular Economy, the control of operating costs and the management of by-products.
The traditional use of biomass in Spain is maintained in a large part of rural society, as well as the agri-food and forestry industry. Around 12% of the energy for heating is generated with biomass. And of that percentage, 30% corresponds to the new, more modern, automatically feeding and technologically advanced stoves and boilers that bring clean and renewable energy also to cities and the service sector. A figure that barely reached 8% 10 years ago, according to information provided by www.observatoriobiomasa.es
Just as Expobiomasa has evolved since its inception in 2006, in Spain, the number of high-efficiency biomass installations has increased from 9,600 in 2008 to 244,197 in 2017. Of these new installations, 90% are pellet stoves. The rest are biomass boilers for domestic use, with a power of less than 50 kW (15,755), as well as for industrial or collective use (11,336) with powers greater than or equal to 50kW.
90% of exhibitors repeat in a “tailor-made” fair.
The 180 members of the Association are the true promoters of the event. And the success of the fair is due, in large part, to the collaboration of dozens of business and professional associations, confederations, research centers and universities, energy agencies, commercial offices of embassies, public administrations and the media.
