Ence converts the trees felled in Madrid by Filomena into renewable energy

Ence , a leading company in Spain in the production of renewable energy with forestry and agricultural biomass, will convert part of the plant remains of trees damaged by the “Filomena” storm in the center of the country into green energy . The company thus contributes to offering an efficient and environmentally sustainable solution to this problem caused by the heavy snowfalls recorded at the beginning of the year.

Center of this initiative, Madrid, one of the areas most affected by the storm, recorded that 749,000 trees of the 1.8 million in municipal conservation have been affected : 150,000 in the road axis, 11,000 in El Retiro and 559,000 in the Casa de Campo, according to official data provided by the City Council. The total number may be around one million damaged trees, out of a total of 5.7 million in the capital.

All of this means a large amount of biomass in streets and parks, which must be properly removed and processed. Given the magnitude of the figures, Ence lends its collaboration to contribute to its correct treatment, offering an alternative route to the processes that these remains usually follow.

The company, through agreements with companies in charge of removing these damaged or fallen trees, will receive them in its biomass plants, where they will be transformed into renewable energy ready to be supplied to the electrical grid. One more example of the potential of biomass within the circular economy, and the sustainable use of agroforestry resources of which Ence is a reference.

The company's biomass generation is a renewable electricity production technology. In this sense, the company's energy management contributes to carbon capture, the fight against climate change and, ultimately, to advance the path of the transition towards a more sustainable economy and society.
