Biomass to heat neighborhood buildings in Aranda de Duero

The heat and DHW network facilities of Aranda de Duero, a municipality in the province of Burgos, opened their doors to the companies Escan, REBI and EREN for a technical visit on October 26.

The objective of the visit was to see the facilities in situ and how the network for the supply of heating and DHW is managed, heating 100% with biomass . Three people from Rebi, the director of EREN and one from Escan made the visit organized by the REBI company. After inspecting the facilities, the Replace 100% Renewable Heating labels were placed.

The facilities are made up of a central station and two substations, one for residential buildings of four blocks of 28 floors of 120 m2, and another for a residence for disabled people. During the visit, REBI explained the entire operation of the biomass installation.

The company offers complete heat and DHW service to homeowner communities. REBI uses local wood chips as fuel, thus providing employment to the area and using a very little exploited resource such as felling and clearing forests. The sale of energy is for a fixed and variable term, it is reviewed annually with the CPI, and the old boilers are maintained.

Pine chips for the boilers
The Amatex company, a logging company with more than 25 years, supplies the chips for the nets, it is a REBI-Amatex binomial. The Aranda de Duero network with two boilers of 5 MW and 7 MW supplies more than 1,200 heating points and in most of them also DHW.

This fuel is environmentally friendly, silent and safe, which also has advantages of local use and maintenance of forests. The Replace project, together with the members of the local working group (manufacturers, installers, institutions, etc.), promotes the use of renewable energy for heating. One of the members of this European project is the company REBI, which promotes the use of biomass every day.
