AVEBIOM supports specific taxation for forests

Foresters, forestry companies, paper and pulp industry, wood industry, forestry engineers, college of forestry engineers and bioenergy associations continue to wait for the new Forestry Law to incorporate the contributions demanded by the sector, so that it truly is a law that promotes sustainable forest management and is effective on the territory.

The forestry sector makes a unanimous call to the Government not to miss the last opportunity it has in its hands to pass a Law capable of “awakening the mountains” and taking advantage of their enormous potential. They are our green infrastructures.

Among the principles that inspire this Law are the sustainable management of forests, the promotion of forestry production and its associated economic sectors, the creation of employment and the development of rural areas. However, we are still far from compliance by not adopting measures that really favor it, such as tax incentives for investment in sustainable forest management, considered of general interest, as recognized by the Law itself, due to the multiple benefits it provides to the community. society.

The sector considers that this proposal would constitute the most effective tool against the abandonment of forests and their progressive deterioration, since active and sustainable management by forestry professionals makes it possible to reduce the risk of forest fires, pests and diseases, and to guarantee the conservation and improvement of forests, and that contributes to generating wealth and employment in rural areas.

But managing is not easy and there are many weaknesses (lack of profitability, long-term production due to short shifts, weak markets, scarcity of public funds, natural disasters,...), which would be alleviated with certain tax incentives that would make it attractive. the investment in the forest and returned the activity to them. We cannot forget the immediate return for the administrations that this measure would mean.

Another request is a decisive push to promote the production and consumption of wood and wood products, including the energy use of forest biomass, which would reduce the fuel load of our mountains and act as an economic engine in the rural environment with local products and short marketing chains.
