Andalusia already represents 56% of the national biomass

Andalusian companies dedicated to the biomass sector, which represent 80 percent of the sector's activity in the region, have agreed, in a meeting promoted by the Association of Promoters and Producers of Renewable Energies of Andalusia (APREAN), to propose a common action to promote this energy source within the national planning prepared by the Government.

The meeting of Andalusian biomass companies, held at the Confederation of Businessmen of Malaga, takes place after the announcement by the central Government to establish a call, which would put an end to the moratorium that has existed since January 2012, for the granting of a Specific remuneration regime for new installations for the production of electrical energy from biomass.

According to the draft royal decree and ministerial order sent by the Ministry of Industry to the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC), the Government will allow the installation of 200 megawatts of biomass throughout the national territory, without specification yet. of distribution by communities, so the biomass companies that APREAN represents have agreed to join forces to ensure that Andalusia receives the maximum possible award in biomass developments, since the region has a volume of natural resources and geographical dimension that make favorable for it.

At the meeting, with the participation of companies dedicated to the production and management of the resource, the manufacture of equipment for thermal uses, engineering and installation and the generation of electrical energy with biomass, APREAN has defended the need to significantly promote the renewable biomass sector for what it represents as an indigenous and environmentally sustainable source, as well as for its contribution to the socioeconomic revitalization of rural populations.

Likewise, they have agreed to propose the unification of quality parameters in biofuels offered on the market for use as biomass for thermal uses, so that their correct use in equipment and facilities is guaranteed by quality standards.

Other issues have also been addressed, such as environmental regulation that may affect emissions from biomass boilers in the residential and service sectors, and the need to transfer to the regional Administration the growing demand for wood of forest origin both by producers and generators of electrical energy.

Andalusia, with 56 percent of the national biomass
According to the latest official data provided by the Andalusian Administration, Andalusia has a total power of 257.48 megawatts (excluding biogas), distributed in 18 plants (located mainly in Huelva, Córdoba and Jaén), with the capacity to supply the equivalent of the electricity consumption of 387,000 homes.

Andalusian biomass represents 56 percent of the national total of this energy source, which reaches 458 megawatts installed in Spain as a whole.
