On March 21 and 22 in Barcelona, Veolia held the first edition of its REDes Seminar (NETWORK of Spanish experts) Biomass, an initiative promoted by the company whose objective is to become an active forum for the participation of all the actors involved in the different design, construction, operation, supply and maintenance projects of biomass energy production facilities managed by the company. This first meeting, which took place in the Ecoenergies heat and cold network, brought together 35 national and international experts, from plant managers and technical directors, to site managers and those responsible for biomass supply.
During the two days of the seminar, participants were able to share their experiences and learn about the way other facilities work with the aim of achieving standardization of processes, establishing a communication network between the people directly involved in these projects and creating added value. based on the possibilities of standardization and grouping of facilities into groups, based on their similarities. In addition, they learned about some of Veolia's most emblematic projects, such as the Móstoles Ecoenergía biomass heat network, the first 100% private project in Spain with a public alliance with the Móstoles City Council. The network has made it possible to avoid the emission of 9,000 tons of CO2 and reduce energy costs by 15%.
In addition to the biomass facilities managed by Veolia in Spain, attendees also had the opportunity to learn about Veolia's projects in other countries, such as Italy and France. Finally, they visited the Ecoenergies Barcelona facilities, where they were able to see how to generate thermal energy, the network takes advantage of renewable and residual energy sources from the city itself, such as biomass. All of this allows a significant reduction in CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and, therefore, a lower environmental impact.
“The purpose of this first meeting focused on biomass has been to facilitate the interaction between the different experts through the presentation of specific cases, facilitating the participation of all the actors involved in this type of projects, such as design, construction, supply, operation and maintenance. We are very satisfied with the response from the attendees, who have valued the initiative very positively,” says Paolo Rossi, Director of Operations at Veolia Spain.
