Junkers ZW24 boiler overpressure valve

The overpressure valve is a very important component in a boiler.

Without the valve not working properly, dangerous pressure levels could be reached in a domestic boiler.

Excess pressure within the system could cause the boiler or water pipes to rupture. If the temperature and pressure inside the boiler are in the normal range of between 1.5 and 3 Bar and the safety valve is leaking, it is a sign that the Junkers ZW24 Boiler Overpressure Valve is defective.

Immediately replace the defective valve.

Step 1

Turn off the boiler. In many cases, the boiler will have a switch. Otherwise, disconnect it from the power

Also close the fill valve that supplies water to the boiler system. This step is extremely important. Wait for the boiler and water to cool.

Step 2

Drain water from the boiler to reduce pressure by opening the boiler drain cock to drain the water. Observe the pressure gauge on the boiler. When the pressure reads zero, close the faucet to stop the water draining.

Step 3

Attach a pipe wrench to the boiler safety valve. Loosen the valve and remove it from the boiler. If the valve has a drain tube attached, remove the drain tube before removing the valve.

Step 4

Wrap Teflon around the two bottom threads of the new valve.

Turn the new valve onto the boiler and tighten it with the socket wrench. Leave it straight and pointed in the same direction as the old valve. Reconnect the drain tube if necessary.

Step 5

Open the fill valve to refill the system with water and restore power to the boiler. Bleed air from the system by opening your radiator bleeders. For most radiators, a screwdriver is required to operate the bleed valves. Check the newly installed valve for leaks.
