Ríos Renovables reinforces its biomass division with the acquisition of Inypsa Servicios Energéticos

Rivers Renewable Group has closed the acquisition of the company INYPSA Energy Services (ISE), an energy subsidiary of the Inypsa group, an operation in which it has invested 1.34 million eur to increase the portfolio of services of the Biomass Division of the Navarra firm and reinforce its positioning in the renewable energy market in Catalonia and Andalusia.

Three new plants
The agreement allows the Navarrese company to acquire an industrial biomass thermal plant that generates steam for the multinational paper company LC Paper, in Besalú (Girona) and two other facilities that supply hot water and heating to the hotel establishments that the Barceló Group has offices in Ayamonte (Huelva) and Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz).

The industrial biomass plant is located in the same facilities as the LC Paper paper mill, from where it provides steam to a tissue paper machine and another kraft paper machine with consumption requirements of 4 t/h, which at an annual level reaches 13 GWh. To generate this demand, the plant consumes 5,500 tons of biomass obtained from local forestry farms.

LC Paper is the first paper manufacturer in the world to achieve a zero carbon footprint contributed by this biomass plant.

As for the rest, in the case of the Ayamonte plant, the facility annually consumes 170 t of olive pits with A1 certification, to meet the annual thermal demand of 600,000 kWh for domestic hot water, heating and a heated indoor pool. of the Barceló Isla Canela hotel, a six-story, 349-room establishment, located next to the mouth of the Guadiana River.

The second plant that serves the Barceló Group is the one located in the facilities of the Hotel Royal Hideway Sancti Petri, a luxurious hotel complex on La Barrosa beach, in Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz). The plant annually consumes 310 t of olive pits to meet an annual thermal demand of 1,100 MWh for domestic hot water, heating, SPA center and heated pool.

With the acquisition of ISE, Rios Renovables takes a giant step towards steam thermal power plants that operate with industrial-type biomass, betting on the energy services model in a sector where the investment requirements to carry out the projects require a great financing capacity.

The Thermal Installations Division contributes 20% of the company's annual turnover. At the national level it has a portfolio that manages 150 thermal power plants, 70 of them use renewable fuel that represents a consumption of 70 GWh/year equivalent to 6,018 toe with a volume of avoided emissions of 17,885 TN CO2.
