Peláez Renovables obtains BIOMASUD certification for olive pits

The Jaén company Peláez Renovables has just obtained the Biomasud quality and sustainability certification for olive pits, which has been managed in Spain by the Spanish Association for the Energy Recovery of Biomass, AVEBIOM, since it came into operation in 2014.

Specifically, Peláez Renovables Piropel Premium Piropel Mix products have received the A1 quality classification; and Piropel, B, according to the UNE164003 standard.

To obtain this certification, the company has spent an audit, within the framework of the eurOPEO Bioma Plus project of the H2020 program, which Coordinates Avebiom and which aims to improve the biofuel certification system.

The objective of this seal, which also recognizes sustainability, is to guarantee the quality of biomass for domestic use in the Mediterranean region in accordance with international standards.

420,000 tons of olive stones

In Spain, which has the largest surface of the world dedicated to the olive grove (more than 2.6 million hectares), 6.2 million tons of olives are produced every year, which provide 420,000 tons of bone, of which 323,500 tons are marketed; The rest is consumed in the oil mills and extractors themselves as a source of heat for their processes. The commercialization of the olive bone as a biofuel generates a business of 50.7 eurper year.
