The Toledo biomass gasification plant has recovered more than 380,000 tons of waste since 2016

The situation that the energy market is going through, especially due to the high price of gas, is driving the rise of some energy technologies that depend on more renewable and sustainable supplies, such as biomass . In this sense, Neoelectra Group 's biomass gasification plant located in Villacañas (Toledo), constitutes a clear example of a circular economy, having valued more than 380,000 tons of industrial waste (sawdust and pieces of board), coming from manufacturing factories. doors of its environment, and forest masses since 2016 . This is equivalent to more than 319,000 MW of generated energy , with natural gas only occasionally used in the process.

A system that allows the recovery of waste and the generation of energy in a sustainable manner.
At the process level, the Villacañas plant is equipped with a 7.8 MW Tuthill Murray Steam turbine, with two gas generators , which transform industrial and forestry waste based on the biomass into a lean gas without combustion, to subsequently burn it by adding air in a special oxidation chamber. then used to generate steam in a boiler, to then be turbined and generate electricity . Helping, in this way, the energy recovery of a waste and a local forest resource, generating continuously renewable electricity.

the treatment of combustion fumes using bag filters is of particular importance , making the installation practically free of particle emissions. The combustion of this lean gas also provides greater stability in the composition of these fumes , which allows better control and therefore lower NOx and CO emissions than a conventional biomass combustion system could have. Added to this is the sustainable management of forest mass from Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid, contributing to reducing the risk of forest fires, especially in the summer.

The plant's activity also involves all the logistics linked to the acquisition and transfer of biomass, which is managed directly by Neoelectra , to guarantee the permanent and stable supply of waste. Constituting a permanent industrial investment, boosting the local economy of the Autonomous Communities in which this waste is acquired, which allows the generation of 1 MW of electricity with 1 and a half tons of biomass.

It should be noted that the Villacañas facility has approximately 40,000 m2 , where both the plant and the biomass collection are located, giving direct and permanent employment to about 25 people, contributing to the territorial roots in rural Spain. A plant that constitutes, therefore, an example of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, framed in the sustainable industrial development that characterizes Neoelectra Group.
