Eur's largest pomace processing plant is now operating at full capacity with a steam boiler

Sugimat a turnkey installation for San Miguel Arcángel, the largest olive pomace processing plant in Eur . This biomass boiler, with a production capacity of 15 tons/hour of industrial steam and an equivalent thermal output of 11 MW, is designed by the German firm ERK, for which Sugimat holds the sole license in Spain.

San Miguel Arcángel, the largest producer of olive pomace in Eur, has entrusted Sugimat with the development of its plant in Villanueva del Arzobispo (Jaén). Sugimat designed, manufactured, and installed a turnkey water-tube steam boiler for biomass combustion, specifically for olive pomace. This biomass, derived from the olive oil extraction process, is characterized by its high calorific value. 

However, this residue also presents a problem related to its ash content and the low melting point of the ash; therefore, a specific design of a multi-pass water-tube industrial steam boiler has been made to counteract the fouling effect on the heat exchange body .

The boiler, with a steam production of 15 tons/hour and an equivalent thermal output of 11 MW , features the Eckrohrkessel design from ERK, a leading German company specializing in boiler engineering and technology. Sugimat is the company's sole licensee in Spain.

This boiler, with a guaranteed operating time of 8,000 hours per year , has replaced the previous equipment and allows for significant savings in current diesel consumption, as it uses the plant's own by-product, olive pomace, as fuel for the generation of process steam, making the installation a success story of circular economy.

In addition to the boiler, Sugimat has supplied the combustion system with a moving grate, the company's own technology, the control system and the flue gas treatment to guarantee the quality of emissions to the atmosphere, as established by RD 1042/2017.
