From October 18 to 20, the El Sucre Exhibition Centre in Vic, Catalonia, will host the sixth edition of the Biomass Fair of Catalonia, an event now firmly established among industry professionals. Among the new features of the fair, which was created to promote synergies and collaboration between companies and generate the growth the market needs to achieve the renewable energy targets set in Eur, is the Biogas Pavilion. This new space, which will also focus on slurry treatment facilities, aims to promote better management of gas from renewable resources.
From industrial to residential biomass, and including the promotion of bioenergy in sectors such as construction, the trade fair demonstrates once again the growing importance of the sector in Catalonia. According to data from the Biomass Boiler Observatory of Catalonia, 2,411 installations were carried out in Catalonia between 2012 and 2015 (181.9 MW of total thermal power). 71% of these were installed in the residential sector, with the province of Barcelona having the highest number of installations, followed by Lleida, Girona, and finally, the province of Tarragona.
In the regulatory sphere, the National Pact for the Energy Transition, promoted from Catalonia, establishes the maximization of the use of indigenous renewable energy sources to achieve a 100% renewable energy model in the long term, achieving an economy not dependent on fossil fuels by 2050. Therefore, promoting the energy use of biomass, preserving the multifunctionality of forests and their ecological function, is strategic.
Free admission.
Admission to the fair is free and is aimed at all companies linked to the biomass and biogas sector, end consumers (administration technicians, farms and livestock sector, industrial, institutions, researchers, architects, surveyors, property managers, etc.) and, finally, also the general public, to promote biomass as a domestic energy source and biogas as an energy alternative in livestock facilities.
In addition to the exhibition space, the Fair will feature various parallel activities such as professional meetings, conferences and workshops for all audiences.
