Finland, a country where bioenergy accounts for 35% of total energy consumption, has a long tradition of using biomass for energy purposes.

In the early 1990s, the development of the 'biomass energy service' model began. Currently, 620 medium-sized installations, ranging from 300 to 6,000 kW, operate under this model. Of these, 141 are municipal and heat more than 200 schools, nurseries, and nursing homes, among other buildings. A third of these energy service installations are also district heating systems, supplying heat to numerous customers.

In Finland, half the population is connected to 'district heating' thanks to more than 15,000 kilometers of hot water pipe networks.

Good relations with Finnish companies, associations and administrations have facilitated the celebration of Finland Day at Expobiomasa 2019 on September 25, 2019 at the Valladolid Fairgrounds. This coincides with the 2nd Spanish-Finnish Biomass Seminar.
