The Spanish company Prodesa Medioambiente continues its international expansion, which has led to the signing of an agreement with the Portuguese paper company Portucel for a new pellet plant project in Greenwood County, South Carolina (USA). The future pellet plant will have a production capacity of 460,000 tons per year.
Portucel began working on this project in 2012. Finally, under the name Colombo Energy, the Portuguese company has reached an agreement with all the suppliers for the different production lines, thus beginning construction of the plant this April. The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately $110 million.
Prodesa will supply the dry grinding and pelletizing lines, including 5 hammer mills and 15 pelletizers. Plant operations will begin in the third quarter of 2016. The pellets produced will be of the highest industrial quality (I1) and will be used for co-combustion in power plants.
