Unstoppable growth of heat and cold networks in Spain

The Association of Heat and Cold Network Companies ( ADHAC ) has presented this week the updated data from its census of heat and cold networks in Spain. In the last census, 247 networks were included, 45 more than in 2014, with a total installed power of 1,139 MW. The air-conditioned surface is more than 7 million square meters, which would be equivalent to 93,000 homes, which would cover the air conditioning needs of a quarter of a million inhabitants in Spain.

Biomass networks
71% of the installed power is for heat supply, with natural gas being the most used fuel with 49% of the installed power, followed by renewables, with 29%, although in absolute terms the networks powered by renewables, mainly biomass, take the cake, being 70% of them. The extension of the networks exceeds 310 kilometers, and their use represents a saving of 156,000 tons of CO 2 per year. Catalonia continues to be the community with the greatest number of installations and the greatest installed power.

The presentation of the data, carried out once at the IDAE headquarters, was carried out by Pedro Prieto, director of Energy Savings and Efficiency at the IDAE, who highlighted the usefulness that the census of heating and cooling networks has for the IDAE, and how it has become the reference framework for the sector. Next, the president of ADHAC, Michel Maria, spoke, welcoming those present and after him, the secretary general of ADHAC, Javier Sigüenza presented the 2015 network inventory and finally Ángel Andreu, manager of Ecoenergies and member of the ADHAC Board of Directors presenting the study carried out by ADHAC on the Economic Effects of Air Conditioning Networks in the Spanish economy.
