ENplus confirms that in 2020 the total production of certified pellets reached 12.3 million tons and predicts that the quantity for the current year will exceed 14 million tons, as derived from the data provided by producers to the European Council of the Pellet -EPC-. These record volumes are linked to the continued expansion of the scheme and the growing number of certified companies.
A month ago, ENplus announced that there were more than 1,100 pellet producers and distributors with active certificates in 47 countries around the world.
Where the certification scheme has recently spread the most has been in Poland, Ukraine and Russia ; Most of the latest companies that have been certified are located there, although there is also growing interest in the system among South American pellet companies.
With more than 3 million tonnes, Germany remains the largest producer of ENplus certified pellets in 2020. Austria continues in second place followed by Russia, while Poland has taken fourth place ahead of France and Spain . All the “top 6” countries have increased their certified production compared to the previous year, except France.
“We continue to see strong demand for certification in most European countries. According to the latest data we have, ENplus certified production represents more than 85% of pellet volumes in at least 10 European countries . Given the current circumstances marked by the pandemic and national programs for the transition to greener energy, we expect that many more end users will seek high-quality pellets, which predicts a promising future for certification ,” according to Catalina Elena Dumitru, director of the system.
In Spain, more than 450,000 tons were certified in 2020, 10.8% more than in 2019. Pablo Rodero, responsible for certification in Spain and president of the European Pellet Council, points out that our country “ follows the positive trend in Europe.” and the rest of the world in the use of certified pellets due to the increasing knowledge and environmental commitment of citizens.”

Fight against fraud
ENplus management continues to allocate considerable resources to ending fraud in the use of the seal. As of April 2021, nearly 740 fraud cases have been identified and resolved.
