EnergyLab inaugurates a laboratory to research new fuels from biomass

The overall objective of the Biomasa AP project is to improve the capacities of R&D centers to optimize the exploitation and use of biomass from pruning, thickets, vid and kiwi remains. It is a cross -border project between Galicia and northern Portugal that seeks to optimize the use of unqualified agroforestry biomass but of high economic and energetic potential in the EurORregion.

Among the tasks to be carried out by EnergyLab is the study of the production of heat and electricity through the combustion of non-valued biomass natural waste. The design and optimization of new solid biofuels and their energy use, as well as the creation of a roadmap for the use of the types of selected biomass, allow biomass to become a pole of development in the regions of Galicia. and Northern Portugal while contributing to the promotion of the circular economy within the agricultural and forestry sector.

The new EnergyLab laboratory has, among other equipment, a micro-cogeneration bank for the production of electrical and thermal energy. In turn, the facilities have been provided with the necessary equipment to carry out the immediate analysis and calorific value of different fuels, in addition to other auxiliary material, increasing the analytical capabilities and the lines of research developed by the EnergyLab Technology Center.

The budget for the project is 2,249,736.47 eurOD of which eurare allocated for the construction and assembly of the new laboratory.
