COMSA Renovables and Electra Caldense have signed a collaboration agreement for the production and marketing of thermal energy, in the domestic and industrial sectors, from biomass.
In the projects carried out within the framework of the agreement, COMSA Corporación's renewable energy company will be responsible for the supply of forest biomass for its subsequent energy valorization, and Electra Caldense will assume the production and subsequent sale of thermal energy.
Through this collaboration agreement, both companies, founding members of the Biomass Cluster of Catalonia, will also execute turnkey projects that will include the design, construction, commissioning, as well as operation and maintenance of new thermal energy production facilities.
This alliance also includes the possibility of operating through an Energy Services Company (ESCO). The ESCO would cover the initial investment, while payment for services rendered would be based on the savings achieved by the client through the implemented energy efficiency improvements.
The agreement is part of the Catalan government's strategy to promote the use of forestry and agricultural energy by valorizing biomass and using it as thermal energy in homes and industries. According to Catalan government data, this plan will allow for the mobilization of 600,000 tons per year starting in 2020, more than double the current figure of 240,000 tons per year.
