The University of Valladolid has received this award, organized by the Spanish Association for the Energy Valorization of Biomass, AVEBIOM, for its actions and investments aimed at promoting the energy benefits of biomass. The jury evaluating the different applications presented wanted to highlight the University of Valladolid's commitment to biomass with the development of different university degrees on aspects related to bioenergy and energy efficiency and sustainability, as well as the installation of systems biomass-based energy systems for the different campuses of the University.
In addition, it has also recognized the “enormous work of teachers and technicians, both in training and raising awareness among their students and other members of the national and international educational community, of the benefits of these biomass energy installations used in the different units of that academic institution.” In previous editions, the 'Promote Bioenergy' award has been received by the Terrassa City Council (2010), IDAE (2011), the Andalusian Energy Agency (2012), the Regional Government of Castilla y León (2013), the Foreign Exchange Office Climate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (2014), the Xunta de Galicia (2015) and NASUVINSA (Navarra of Land and Housing) (2016).
Innovation Award and two second prizes
Likewise, the mayor of Valladolid, Óscar Puente, presented the 2017 Innovation Award to the Aragonese company Biocurve, for its wood chip condensation boiler that offers a record power of 200 kW, double the largest biomass condensation boiler conceived to date.
The Aragonese company, whose production plant is located in Vizcaya, has developed a very innovative project, the BCA200 chip condensation boiler, whose design optimizes heat exchange in an ultra-compact space and a rotating, self-cleaning burner. BCA200 presents an extraordinary improvement in chip performance: between 102% and 105%, 10%-15% higher than conventional boilers. And consequently, it also offers high performance in fuel economy.
The two second prizes for the 2017 Innovation Award were also awarded, awarded to the Austrian company Windhager, recognizing the Zero-Emissions technology of its PuroWIN boiler, for its gasification burner; and to the Italian company Tiemme Electronica, for the development of its 4Heat project, a wi-fi device for remote control and management of biomass heating systems.
