85% of national pellet production has the ENplus quality seal

85% of the pellets manufactured in Spain are certified with the ENplus quality seal, as reported today by the Spanish Association for the Energy Recovery of Biomass, Avebiom , which has managed this certification since its implementation in 2011.

From 2011 to 2018, a total of 52 ENPLUS certificates have been issued in Spain with a production range and 26 with a marketing scope, which places Spain among countries with more EurOPA certified companies, together with Germany, Austria and Italy. Although if only the producing companies are counted, Spain occupies the second place eurOpeo, only behind Germany.

Pellets are the type of biofuel manufactured with biomass that has burst into the national market most strongly over the last seven years, with growth of over 170%, going from 250,000 tons manufactured in 2012 to 684,000 in 2018. according to Avebiom estimates.

However, in terms of consumption, growth has been significantly greater, above 240%, since the estimated sales in 2018 amount to almost 600,000 tons, compared to 175,000 in 2012.

By autonomous community, the factories with the highest volume of pellet production are located: Galicia, where 97% of the total produced has the ENplus seal; Andalusia (96%), Castilla y León (92%) and Catalonia (91%).

In other communities with more modest pellet manufacturing volumes, such as Asturias, La Rioja and Cantabria, practically 100% of the total produced has ENplus certification.

Avebiom has the ENplus license and owns the rights to the brand in Spain, whose certifying entity is Aenor.
