The CARTIF technology center is organizing a workshop on innovation in processes and product/service design related to low-temperature thermal networks and their future applications in residential neighborhoods, to be held on January 10th. This event is a collaboration with the Institute for Business Competitiveness (ICE) of Castile and León, within the framework of the Training, Technology Transfer and Support for Business R&D&I Program (Centr@trec3) . The workshop will take place in the Auditorium of the School of Industrial Engineering at the University of Valladolid and will be held exclusively in person.

The current energy landscape has created a significant gap in consumer awareness and environmental consciousness, prompting new frameworks to explore alternative energy sources with a greater environmental impact. Within this context, district heating networks are emerging as a viable renewable energy solution, enhancing energy security while simultaneously reducing their carbon footprint.

The welcome address, given by Jesús Jiménez Miguel, territorial director of Valladolid for ICE , and Javier Olmos Herguedas, member of R&D Programs at CARTIF , will be the starting point of a day in which the knowledge of installers and other stakeholders will be shared on the trends, innovations and characteristics of heat networks for their application in residential neighborhoods.

During the first part of the day, issues related to R&D trends in district networks , the modeling and design of low and very low temperature networks, or the geothermal use of mine water in low temperature networks will be presented by professionals from CIEMAT, the University of Valladolid and HUNOSA.

The session will then move on to biomass and renewable gases in district heating networks, heat pumps as a component of low-temperature networks, and the transition to low-temperature networks, presented by representatives from SOMACYL, KEYTER, and Veolia. The morning will conclude with a roundtable discussion moderated by Luis Ángel Bujedo, a researcher at CARTIF, to share the day's key takeaways.
