The president of the Spanish Association for the Energy Recovery of Biomass (Avebiom), Javier Díaz, has asked the Government of Spain for “more determined support for biomass as a source of energy, with a greater participation in the mix , because it is essential to be able to meet the environmental objectives established by the EU in 2050.”
Díaz called for “measures to reduce dependence on fossil energies, highly polluting, which unbalance the national balance of payments as they are not endogenous resources such as biomass.” The EU has set the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% in 2050, compared to 1990, and has approved the increase in the contribution of renewables in the mix to 32%.
The president of Avebiom, Javier Díaz, made these statements during the opening ceremony of the 2018 Bioenergy Congress, organized by Avebiom and the Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha under the title 'Installations and heat networks with biomass for public use' .
Díaz explained that the objective of this Congress is to facilitate the official processing process for biomass heat networks, which is the main “obstacle that the promoters of this type of facilities encounter, due to a logical lack of initial information. by the municipal managers and technicians themselves, since in many cases there are no precedents in the town councils.”
In Spain, 375 biomass heat networks operate, 340 more than in 2010, with an accumulated power of 312 thermal MW, according to data from the National Biomass Boiler Observatory. Of them, 292 (78%) are biomass heat networks that serve public buildings.
In addition, there are another 78 facilities that are in the execution phase, which will increase the accumulated power to 453 MW terms.
