Acciona Energía held a groundbreaking ceremony for its biomass plant in Logrosán (Extremadura), marking the start of construction. The event was attended by the President of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara; the Mayor of Logrosán, Juan Carlos Hernández; the Chairman of Acciona, José Manuel Entrecanales; and the CEO of Acciona Energía, Rafael Mateo.

Located 10 kilometers from the town center, the Logrosán biomass plant will have a total surface area of 200,000 square meters, with slightly more than half of that space dedicated to raw material storage. Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025 and will reach 376 GWh/year, preventing the emission of more than 165,000 tons of CO2 annually.

Acciona Energía was awarded the construction, operation and maintenance of this biomass plant in the third auction for the granting of the economic regime of renewable energies called by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, which guarantees a sale price of the electricity that the plant produces for 20 years.

The plant's annual consumption is estimated at 261,000 metric tons of agricultural and forestry biomass, primarily sourced from the surrounding area. This will boost the regional economy while contributing to fire prevention by encouraging the clearing and maintenance of woodlands and pastureland. Furthermore, the biomass plant will generate nearly 1,400 direct, indirect, and induced jobs throughout its operational lifecycle.

The project includes support plans to monitor the preservation and regeneration of the area's flora and fauna, as well as a program to manage the social impact on the plant's surroundings. Among the actions to be carried out are a training program to promote the hiring of local staff, advisory services and skills development for the local agricultural and livestock sector, and an entrepreneurship project focused on supplying materials for the plant.
